Our story
The art of storytelling is at the
heart of everything we do.
We help people tell better stories. Simple as that.
Good Prose Studios was founded by award-winning journalist Dr Erin O’Dwyer in 2023, when she saw that demand for true storytelling craft had never been greater. No longer just from media and publishing houses but from leaders, experts and creative thinkers who wanted to tell better stories.
Erin’s vision for Good Prose Studios is clear: to share simple, practical storytelling principles that help our clients communicate more effectively – no matter the platform or genre.
Good Prose Studios offers practical guidance in the fundamentals of narrative craft for authors, experts, leaders and organisations. Our expertise spans books, podcasts, documentary, social media storytelling, business communications, and research translation. We offer done-for-you and done-with-you services, alongside training and coaching to build your capability.
The Good Prose Studios offering is three-fold: strategic storytelling services, independent publishing through Good Prose Studios Press, and traditional writing, editing and writing coaching services.
Whether editorial or strategic, everything we produce is shaped by the same commitment to story values, and our ‘story first’ philosophy.
If you’ve been searching for an award-winning writer, an experienced book editor or a narrative strategist in Sydney, you’ve come to the right place.

What’s in a name?
The origin of Good Prose Studios.
The name Good Prose Studios was inspired by Good Prose: The Art of Non-Fiction by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Tracy Kidder and his long-time editor Richard Todd of The Atlantic. In the book, Kidder and Todd share decades of craft expertise, reflecting on the relationship between writer and editor – a partnership built on trust and respect. Or, in their words, an alliance grounded in “collaboration and friendship”.
For Kidder, Todd’s work as an editor was as vital to the publishing process as the words he put on the page. “Writing is revision. All prose responds to work,” Kidder wrote. Sometimes, too, the editor’s role was simply one of encouragement and forbearance. It’s with a touch of wry humour that Kidder recalls how much of Todd’s feedback was often summed up in a simple: “It’s fine. Keep going.”
We are inspired by Kidder and Todd’s working relationship – one that was rigorous, collaborative and built on mutual respect. It’s a model that recognises the writer’s voice, while also strengthening the work through the editor’s objective eye. We bring the same approach to every project, whether we are editing a manuscript, consulting on a new business, or building a storytelling series from the ground up.
